Kauffman Applauds Olympic Steel’s Decision to Expand Operations, Add Jobs at Processing Facility in Chambersburg
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Rob Kauffman (R-Cumberland/Franklin) offered the following comments following the announcement of Olympic Steel Inc. expanding its steel processing facility in Franklin County, creating 90 new manufacturing jobs and investing $11 million for the purchase of new equipment and training of new employees.

“Olympic Steel is one of those companies that could have easily chosen to expand in one of the other states where it has a facility; however, it ultimately chose Pennsylvania due to our continuing efforts to make the Commonwealth more business friendly. The many initiatives we have adopted to provide grants and tax credits for businesses is what helped Olympic Steel decide to expand operations here in the Keystone State.

“The General Assembly has fast-tracked several pro-jobs and pro-business initiatives during the past two years, and although many of these bills are technical in nature and not highly relatable to most people, the results are more businesses bringing more jobs and more investment to the local economy. The time the Legislature has spent on these types of new laws is important to every consumer’s wallet. In the end, it is the short-term start-up and expansion assistance that benefits the business, while we, the state and residents, benefit from the long-term economic investment of established companies.

“Our local economy, which has continued to struggle since the recent recession, will benefit greatly from the addition of these family-sustaining jobs.

“I also want to thank our local Franklin County Area Development Corporation for working with the Governor’s Action Team to facilitate Olympic Steel’s expansion in the county.”

Founded in 1954, Olympic Steel Inc. has had a facility located in Chambersburg since 1999. It provides customer-focused, state-of-the-art machining, welding, plate processing, warehousing and distribution services to local equipment manufacturers.
