HARRISBURG – State Rep. Rob Kauffman (R-Franklin) today announced $650,000 in funding has been approved for the Borough of Chambersburg’s Southgate pedestrian improvement project.

The funding will be used to construct pedestrian improvements on South Water Street of the former Southgate Shopping Center located in Chambersburg Borough.

“Pedestrian improvements are a key piece of the overall project to redevelop the former Southgate Shopping Center into a planned mixed-use residential neighborhood,” said Kauffman. “It was my pleasure to advocate for this funding and I look forward to seeing the improvement plan progress forward.”

Funding comes from the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund, which provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the Commonwealth.
