HARRISBURG – State Rep. Rob Kauffman (R-Franklin) has announced funding from both the state’s Local Share Account (LSA) and Public School Facility Improvement Grant (PSFIG) programs for projects in the 89th Legislative District.

“Our local municipalities and schools work hard to provide safe, healthy facilities and services for the communities they serve, and these grants go a long way in helping to afford needed repairs and upgrades,” said Kauffman. “I was happy to advocate for these grants which will help our first responders carry out their duties more efficiently and safely, provide affordable housing for those in need, and give our students safe facilities in which to learn and play.”

Projects that received funding include:
• $327,465 for the Chambersburg Police Department to purchase three police vehicles, 11 mobile data computers and five license plate readers.
• $225,395 for Habitat for Humanity to purchase 25 acres of land to build approximately 72 homes of affordable housing for low- to moderate-income households.
• $50,988 for the Marion Athletic Association to purchase a tractor and attachments needed to maintain the baseball and softball fields in Guilford Township.
• $675,000 for New Franklin Volunteer Fire Company to purchase a new fire engine.

“I also worked with Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-Franklin) to secure $677,000 in LSA funding for the Franklin Fire Company No. 4,” said Kauffman. “We both saw the value in this request and eagerly teamed up to advocate for the money to purchase of a Pierce Enforcer Custom Pumper Fire Engine.”

Funding for the LSA program comes from the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act, which provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for these grants.

Additionally, Kauffman advocated for funding for the Chambersburg School District. Specifically, he helped secure $791,841 under the PSFIG program for needed roof repairs at both Fayetteville and Scotland elementary schools.

Funding for the PSFIG program is distributed under the Department of Community and Economic Development to public school districts and area career and technical schools for eligible facility improvement projects.
