HARRISBURG - Rep. Rob Kauffman (R-Franklin) today announced the 2017 adult trout stocking schedules are now available online and in his district offices in preparation for opening day of trout season in April. The guides can also be accessed through the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s FishBoatPA mobile app.

“With the recent surge in temperatures, I’m sure many area anglers are anticipating the start of trout season,” said Kauffman. “Now is the perfect time to get this year’s schedule and start planning your upcoming fishing trips.”

The commission stocks approximately 3.15 million adult trout in more than 720 streams and 120 lakes open to public angling each year. These figures include approximately 2 million rainbow trout; 640,000 brown trout; and 500,000 brook trout. The average size of the trout produced for stocking is 11 inches in length.

The statewide opening day for trout season is Saturday, April 15, but a regional opening day in 18 southcentral and southeastern counties, which includes Franklin County, is set for Saturday, April 1.

Copies of the trout stocking schedules, including a searchable database, can be found online at RepKauffman.com. Hard copies of the trout stocking schedules may also be obtained at Kauffman’s district offices at 166 S. Main St. in Chambersburg and 703 Municipal Drive in Shippensburg.
