HARRISBURG – Rep. Rob Kauffman (R-Franklin) today announced two Safe Schools grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Education for the Chambersburg Area School District and the Franklin County Career and Technology Center.

“Our schools are continually developing new strategies to keep their student populations safe; however, funding is often an issue,” said Kauffman. “That is where these grants come into play. They help supply the money needed to reach school safety goals.”

Chambersburg Area School District has been awarded the Year 2 allocation of its 2016-17 Safe Schools School Police/Resource Officer Grant in the amount of $20,000.

This grant funding is intended to be used for the training and compensation of school resource officers and school police officers.

Franklin County Career and Technology Center has been awarded a Safe Schools Equipment Grant in the amount of $20,000.

The goals of this grant are:
  • To assist schools in reducing unnecessary student disciplinary actions and promote a climate of greater productivity, safety and learning.

  • To assist schools in procuring the resources and training necessary to create a physical environment that fosters the safety and well-being of students and staff.

“Providing students with a safe learning environment is of the utmost importance and these grants will help attain that goal,” said Kauffman. “I want to congratulate both schools on being selected for these grants.”
