Kauffman Announces Two New Committee Assignments
HARRISBURG – Rep. Rob Kauffman (R-Cumberland/Franklin) has been assigned to four standing committees within the House of Representatives for the 2013-14 legislative session, including the House Consumer Affairs, Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Tourism and Recreational Development, and Health committees.

“Both the Health Committee and the Tourism and Recreational Development Committee are new to my assignments and I look forward to working with the committees on legislative issues of importance to residents and businesses in the 89th Legislative District,” said Kauffman. “One issue of particular importance to many residents is how Pennsylvanians will be impacted by Obamacare. Following Governor Corbett’s decision to opt out of a state-based health care exchange and as Governor Corbett is poised to make an announcement on whether or not the Commonwealth will participate in the Obamacare Medicaid expansion, the Health Committee will entertain a rigorous agenda this session. We will be on the front line of resisting federal government encroachment on Pennsylvanian’s health care decisions.”

The Tourism and Recreational Development Committee will likely look into legislation to better market Pennsylvania through a public-private partnership, to create a funding source to support tourism marketing, and to address a strategic plan for promoting history and heritage in the Commonwealth.

“As Agriculture is Pennsylvania’s No. 1 industry and Tourism is the state’s No. 2 industry, these assignments put me on the committees which impact the two largest economic engines in the Commonwealth. These have an enormous impact on our economy and job market,” said Kauffman.

In addition to his committee assignments, Kauffman also will continue to serve in his role at a deputy Republican whip, a position which has him helping gather votes and educating other members on legislation coming before the House for a vote.

Kauffman represents residents in Shippensburg and Southampton townships and Shippensburg Borough in Cumberland County, as well as Greene, part of Guilford, Letterkenny, Lurgan and Southampton townships and Chambersburg, Orrstown and Shippensburg boroughs in Franklin County.
