Kauffman Reacts to Wolf Line Item Veto
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Rob Kauffman (R-Franklin) issued the following statement after Gov. Tom Wolf today partially vetoed House Bill 1460, the budget legislation he was sent last week by the General Assembly:

“The governor’s actions put an end to the threat of schools not opening Monday, Jan. 4, when the holiday break comes to an end. Human service providers will also receive the funding they need to serve at-risk Pennsylvanians. The sad part is the reality that these ‘hostages’ didn’t need to be taken, as this action could have occurred months ago.

“The portions of the budget vetoed today by Gov. Wolf are a blueprint for proper fiscal stewardship that generously funded our priorities without the need for higher broad-based taxes. Although this budget had Democrat support, the governor remains unwilling to accept anything less than his demands. He lacks the ability to govern in a reasonable, bipartisan manner.

“Only in the progressive world of President Barack Obama and Gov. Tom Wolf can a $405 million increase in PreK-12 education funding be spun into a $95 million cut. That is exactly what this administration is trying to convince our citizens. This governor will accept nothing less than dramatically growing the size and scope of government by increasing taxes on average Pennsylvanians.

“While Gov. Wolf may have made a good schoolyard bully back in his day, he will not bully me into enacting higher taxes on my constituents. I will continue to support funding the important priorities in our communities but reject the governor's demand for raising taxes.”
